Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
