19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his initial title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a former world number one, has endured a challenging period, managing just one match at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks his maiden trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt from that period of that year.

Success also means Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive approach and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and compete positively, backed up by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his first ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a decider.

The opponent defended four initial opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner secured the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent incapable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
